Leroy Sane omitted from Germany World Cup squad

Sane left out of Germany squad

But Sane has remarkably been left out of Germany's 23-man roster for the upcoming World Cup in Russian Federation.

The 22-year-old is coming off the back of an impressive season at club level which saw him collect a Premier League and Carabao Cup double.

Sane impressed throughout the season, having scored 10 goals and provided 15 assists in 28 league appearances.

Sane's City teammate, Ilkay Gundogan was, however, included in the team as well as regulars like Mesut Ozil, Toni Kroos, Sami Khedira and Jerome Boateng.

The Manchester City forward had formed part of Joachim Low's 27-man preliminary party, but was one of four unfortunate figures cut when a final selection was made.

"Julian Draxler, Marco Reus and Thomas Müller are set".

"It was a very tight decision between him and Julian Brandt which went in favour of Brandt", Loew said.

But Joachim Low left out the 22-year-old when he named his final 23-man squad for Russian Federation 2018 on Monday morning. "If it was a 100 metre race, it would have been a photo finish".

Germany begin their World Cup finals campaign against Mexico on June 17 and also face Sweden and South Korea in Group F.

Explaining his decision to reporters (via the Mirror), Low revealed that he doesn't think Sane is ready for the worldwide stage, stating that he is "yet to arrive".

While pundits and fans alike expressed their utter shock at Sane's snub, one player who can relate better than anyone, Landon Donovan, offered Sane an alternative to Russian Federation 2018.
