Missouri College 'Chooses Country Over Company,' Drops Nike Over Kaepernick Ad

The Kaepernick ad sparked some backlash on social media, with critics calling for a Nike boycott and even posting photos and videos of Nike products set on fire.

Not only did shares in Nike fall this week after it announced its new campaign with Kaepernick, favorability of the company also dropped by double digits and there was no boost among key demographics.

Kaepernick began taking a knee during the national anthem before NFL games in 2016 to protest systemic racial injustice and police brutality.

After Nike's ad launched Monday, Kyle penned a lengthy Facebook post which said that she was disappointed with Nike's choice in Kaepernick. "I don't think it's appropriate what they did", Trump said in an interview with Fox News before a rally in Montana.

Kaepernick's grievance against the league and team owners accuses owners of colluding to keep him off any roster. Following the revelation Monday that Kaepernick, who reportedly has been under contract with Nike since 2011, would be involved in an ad campaign, the National Football League said in a statement that it "believes in dialogue, understanding and unity" and embraces "the role and responsibility of everyone involved with this game to promote meaningful, positive change in our communities".

"So when Nike did this, it's their right I have nothing against it", said Feed Our Vets founder Rich Synek. This was the statement he gave after the game explaining why he was protesting: "I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color". But many others chimed in with messages of support for Kaepernick. A TV ad featuring Kaepernick immediately followed.

Boyer said that both he and many of his fellow veterans don't necessarily take issue with Nike's new ad campaign featuring Kaepernick, which has led to protests from some Nike customers. Owners approved a policy requiring players to stand if they are on the sideline during the song, allowing them to stay off the field if they wish.
