Serena Williams Meltdown at 2018 US Open Women's Final

Serena Williams hits a return to Anastasija Sevastova during their women's singles semifinal

Naomi Osaka serves to Madison Keys during their 2018 U.S. Open women's singles semi-finals tennis match on September 6, 2018, in NY.

Now Osaka has the chance to claim a first major title after reaching her maiden slam final by defeating 14th seed Keys 6-2 6-4 in NY.

In an extraordinary second set, the American launched a verbal attack on the umpire, demanding an apology and accusing him of being a thief.

Williams vehemently denied she was cheating on-court in the final, before slamming referee Carlos Ramos of sexism. "You will never, ever be on another court of mine".

There was a lot more controversy than in a typical championship match, however, as Williams was first penalized a point and then a game for accumulating three violations. But I'm also playing a sport professionally. Tell me about her very, very briefly.

"You definitely can't go back in time", Williams said when asked if she would change anything about the match. "Maybe it was the mom in me that was like, ‘Listen, weve got to pull ourselves together here".

"I just texted Patrick, like, What is he talking about?"

Serena Williams said she did not know her coach was giving her instructions and had "never cheated in her life" after her hopes of winning a 24th Grand Slam title ended in extraordinary scenes at the U.S. Open on Saturday.

Then, she lost the US Open final 2018.

Osaka was invited to give a message to Williams ahead of the showdown and whispered: "I love you", sparking further hilarity on Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Naomi Osaka was brought to tears as fans booed at the US Open presentation. She was mostly dominant, dropping only one set in her seven matches, and she saved 5 of 6 break points against Williams after erasing all 13 in the semifinals against Madison Keys. He's never (taken) a game from a man because they said, 'thief.' For me, it blows my mind.

"I know you guys were here rooting for me, and we'll get through it".

"Do you know how many other men do things that are much worse than that, this is not fair". Not since Maria Sharapova was 19 in 2006 has the U.S. Open had a younger women's champion. Osaka, the first Japanese player to win a Grand Slam, was unflappable from the start, largely avoiding mistakes-she hit just 14 unforced errors-and taking advantage of Williams's missteps.

Though her nerves on the tennis court don't show it, it was a reminder of just how youthful the 20-year-old Osaka is. Even during the match, whenever she was faced with a tough spot, she kept telling herself to try to do what Williams would do.

Osaka, a self-proclaimed Serena fan and first Japanese woman to reach a Grand Slam singles final, told reporters after her semi-final that she would focus on separating the legend from the player.

Williams lost to Angelique Kerber at Wimbledon, but has hit a higher level in NY, her latest outstanding display leading to a 6-3 6-0 victory over Sevastova.

"I'm honest, I was coaching".

"It was kind of hard because I was really concerned about her, like, the inner fan in me jumped out, so I really had to push to keep a straight face".

'There are matters that need to be looked into that took place during the match.
