Tesla accounting chief resigns

Tesla chief Elon Musk smokes marijuana on live web show

Just hours later Tesla was rocked again as human resources boss Gabrielle Toledano and accounting chief Dave Morton left.

That interview - coupled with the abrupt departure of the company's chief accounting officer - pushed Tesla's stock further into the red on Friday, with it falling more than 6 percent to $262.28 per share. Morton stated that "the level of public attention placed on the company" and "the pace within the company" caused him to reconsider his future.

Meanwhile, the company announced in a regulatory filing the departure of Morton, who is quoted by Tesla as stepping down due to the level of public scrutiny and the pace at the company but not over any disagreements with Tesla's leadership or its financial reporting.

The controversial SpaceX and Tesla billionaire smoked a joint during a wide-ranging two and a half hour chat Joe Rogan Experience comedy podcast, which covered everything from artificial intelligence and its impact on humankind to flame throwers and social media.

"I'm not a regular smoker of weed", the Tesla CEO said late Thursday on the podcast, which was shown live on the internet.

Later he says he does not notice any effect from the joint and claims he rarely smokes. He knows a lot of people like weed, but "I don't find that it is very good for productivity", he tells Rogan.

Musk already alarmed some Tesla investors by admitting in an emotional interview last month with The New York Times that he takes the prescription drug Ambien because he has difficulty sleeping. In the first quarter of this year, the company lost Morton's predecessor, Eric Branderiz, and Susan Repo, who was treasurer and vice-president of finance.

He went on to say that running Tesla was the "hardest" job he has: "It's very difficult to keep a auto company alive". Musk asked Rogan to which he responded, "Totally legal".

Now, as the smoke clears, Musk's electric auto company finds itself facing dire straits.

Musk hit back at Vernon in a freakish series of tweets.

Concerned investors drove Tesla's stock price down 5 percent to $265.22 as of 12:12 p.m. on Friday.

An ex-Tesla employee who says she was sacked for testing positive for THC, the ingredient found in marijuana, called CEO Elon Musk's decision to smoke marijuana during an interview a "slap in the face".

BuzzFeed News reported earlier in the week that Musk, in an email to the news site, called Mr Unsworth a "child rapist".

The appearance was the latest unorthodox move by Musk, who has often surprised investors with brash and unpredictable behavior as Tesla has sought to live up to lofty manufacturing targets for its Model 3 electric vehicle.

The stoned conversation between Rogan and Musk sounded like typical liberal arts college dorm room fodder, despite taking place between an MMA bro and the world's richest edge lord.

At least 48 executives have left the company this year.
