White House gets Federal Bureau of Investigation report on Judge Brett Kavanaugh allegations

UB40 Want Nothing to Do With Brett Kavanaugh

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell took a key step to advance Brett Kavanaugh's nomination to the Supreme Court on Wednesday, saying on the Senate floor that "this evening, the Senate will receive the results of the FBI supplemental background investigation" into the allegations against the nominee. Kavanaugh vehemently denies the accusation.

Kavanaugh's truthfulness to Congress - including how he represented his alcohol consumption - is also under the scanner, with a former Yale classmate on Monday accusing the judge of misleading lawmakers when he said he never experienced blackouts. But Democrats accused the administration of restricting the probe behind the scenes.

Senator Dianne Feinstein, the committee's top Democrat, called Mr Trump's comments "cruel", adding, "he sent a clear message to victims of sexual assault that they should not be believed".

The FBI, he said, should do what they have to do to get to the answer. Ford's lawyers confirmed as of Wednesday afternoon that she had not been contacted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. "And right now, that's sort of where our focus needs to be", said Senator Bob Corker of Tennessee, who has traded barbs with Trump and will retire at year's end.

Bloomberg reported that the agency lacked White House approval to speak to Kavanaugh or Ford. "How did you get there? And we better start as a country getting smart and getting tough".

Senate Judiciary Committee says nothing in its tweet is inaccurate or misleading.

There are nine staff members - both Republicans and Democrats - who have access to the report and can brief members who don't want to read it in detail.

There is debate on Capitol Hill as to whether all or some of the report should be made public.

Trump himself didn't respond publicly to the criticism. Other Republicans have voiced similar concern.

A handful of Republicans and Democrats have not decided whether to support Kavanaugh. Republicans dismissed that as "baseless innuendo".

Besides Flake and Collins, Republican Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Democrats Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota have yet to declare their positions on Kavanaugh. The much-anticipated report on the sexual assault allegations against the judge was delivered to the Senate overnight where the final vote is now planned for Saturday.

The reopened FBI investigation was prompted by reservations expressed last by Sen.

During four hours of emotionally intense testimony, Ford said she was "100 percent" certain that Kavanaugh was the person who assaulted her at a high school party in suburban Maryland in 1982. He had previously submitted a statement denying the incident but had resisted appearing before the committee. But there are no indications agents have questioned Julie Swetnick, who has alleged she was victimized at a party attended by Kavanaugh and his friends.

Moreover, the inquiry focused mainly on the account of Ford, the research psychologist who alleges that a drunken Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her when they were high school students in the Washington suburbs.

Fresh questions have been raised about Kavanaugh's temperament and the evidence he gave to the judiciary committee last week.

The group says Kavanaugh told "outright falsehoods".

He said "Debbie's story was believable and that Brett was frequently, incoherently drunk".

It marked an aggressive change of tactics after Trump had opted to show restraint towards Christine Blasey Ford, calling her a "very credible witness" following her Senate testimony against Judge Brett Kavanaugh last week.

"The President was stating the facts", Ms Sanders said.
"Boofing" and "Devil's Triangle" are sexual references.
