How Democrats And Republicans Are Reacting To The FBI Report On Kavanaugh

Graham chides Trump for mocking Kavanaugh accuser, but adds ‘it can be worse’ | Charlotte Observer

The Senate will decide Friday morning whether to send the president's nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to a final vote, expected early Saturday evening.

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh has acknowledged he "might have been too emotional" when testifying about sexual misconduct allegations as he made a bid to win over wavering Republican senators on the eve of a crucial vote to advance his confirmation.

But Republicans moved forward with plans for a key procedural vote today and a final vote tomorrow on confirming the conservative federal appeals judge for a lifetime job on the top United States court.

"This is what democracy looks like!" protesters shouted outside the Supreme Court, voicing their opposition to Brett Kavanaugh's nomination to the high court but somehow speaking for everyone on every side on a day of passion, chaos and outcome.

No Republicans have said they will vote against Mr Kavanaugh, although four have not committed to supporting him.

She also claims that girls - including herself - were gang raped at these parties, but can not say whether Kavanaugh was among the attackers.

A procedural vote on Kavanaugh's nomination is set for Friday.

She's the California college professor who testified last week at a Senate hearing that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her in high school when they were teenagers.

"This is now the 7th. time the FBI has investigated Judge Kavanaugh", Trump wrote.

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh is acknowledging he "might have been too emotional" in Senate testimony but says he can be counted on to be an "even-keeled" judge.

Republicans Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski and Jeff Flake and Democrat Joe Manchin.

Feinstein said those restrictions raised "serious concerns that this is not a credible investigation and begs the question: What other restrictions has the White House placed on the FBI?". Feeding the anxiety was an unusually beefy presence of the U.S. Capitol Police, who were keeping demonstrators and frequently reporters at arm's length by forming wedges around lawmakers walking through corridors. "It appears that the White House completely circumscribed the investigation to try to make it meaningless and they succeeded".

It had been a smooth process by Washington's bumpy standards until Christine Blasey Ford, then other women, came forward with their accusations, setting up an epic hearing last week centered on Ford's pained recounting of her allegation and Kavanaugh's blistering denials.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, Calif., the top Democrat on the committee, later told reporters that "the most notable part of this report is what's not in it". "From their own public statements, we knew that to be false, and nothing in this report changes that". "That is because I forcefully and passionately denied the allegation against me", Kavanaugh wrote. Judge has said he did not recall the events described by Ford and that he never saw Kavanaugh act in the manner that she describes. However, there has been tension between Trump and Wray in recent months, with Wray publicly objecting after the president criticized the Federal Bureau of Investigation and said that its reputation was in "tatters". Senators were allowed to read it behind closed doors in a secure location in the Capitol, without taking notes or making copies.

"It's not like a typical type of investigation, where the FBI has wide latitude to pursue facts and evidence and information as necessary to develop a case or develop information for national security purposes, that type of thing", Campbell said.

It was not clear why the 10th was not interviewed. She had accused him of sexual assault during a party decades ago when they were in high school. "I'll be voting to confirm Judge Kavanaugh".

I don't remember. How'd you get there? The closely guarded collection of interviews is celebrated by Republican leaders as concrete proof that Kavanaugh did not harass or abuse women.
