Missing journalist reportedly killed in 'barbaric way' at Saudi consulate

Missing journalist killed in Saudi consulate in Istanbul claim Turkish officials Reports

"The official strongly denounced these baseless allegations, and expressed doubt that they came from Turkish officials that are informed of the investigation or are authorized to comment on the issue", the statement from the Saudi Press Agency says, in part.

A friend of a Saudi journalist who went missing in Istanbul says officials told him to "make your funeral preparations" as the Washington Post contributor "was killed" at the Saudi Consulate.

Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said this week that the kingdom would allow Turkey to search the consulate for Khashoggi.

"If Khashoggi was indeed murdered inside a diplomatic facility, it is an act of terror that echoes Russian and Chinese tactics of extraterritorial, extrajudicial attacks on dissidents, meant to intimidate any who would speak out against the Saudi government, no matter where they may be, and giving the lie to official narratives of 'reform" in Saudi Arabia, ' said Summer Lopez, PEN America's senior director of free expression programs.

Perhaps the main thing to be aware of is that he has described Prince Mohammed as a "brash and abrasive young innovator" - and even said he is "acting like Putin".

A Turkish official told the AP late Saturday that an "initial assessment" by police concluded Khashoggi had been killed at the consulate.

He is also said to have maintained a link with Prince Turki al-Faisal, who ran Saudi Arabia's intelligence agency for more than 20 years. Once regarded as close to the Saudi establishment, he was a frequent defender of the kingdom's policies.

The Washington Post newspaper, which featured articles from Khashoggi on its Global Opinions section, published blank pages on its print and website editions on Friday, demanding urgent information about the journalist whereabouts.

"I do miss home very much". Human and women's rights activists, intellectuals and clerics have been arrested - meanwhile, Saudi Arabia is waging a war in Yemen that has triggered a humanitarian crisis. Dozens of them remain in jail, and many more people are barred from leaving Saudi Arabia.

"The condition of the lost journalist, details on him and who is responsible for this will be uncovered", AK Party spokesman Omer Celik told reporters at a party summit chaired by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The disappearance of Khashoggi could threaten the already fragile relationship between Saudi Arabia and Turkey. In December, Mr. Erdogan instead sent more troops, a move seen as an effort to prevent Saudi Arabia from taking military action in the dispute. Saudi officials say he left shortly afterwards but his fiancee, who was waiting outside, said he never came out.

Earlier, Prince bin Salman told Bloomberg News that Turkish authorities were welcome to search the building. He said the Saudi royal family were just as afraid as common citizens that Prince Mohammed might order their arrest for speaking out.

The crown prince denied that the kingdom had halted the plan after a media report said that financial advisors working on it had been disbanded. "If I go back, I have to dance their dance".
