Video appears to show Khashoggi's 'body double' leaving Saudi consulate

Erdogan, Trump hold phone conversation on Khashoggi

Turkey's pro-government media published new claims on Monday linking Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan vowed to reveal the "naked truth" about the case.

A longtime US critic of Saudi Arabia says he feels certain that Crown Prince Mohammed directed the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Turkish police have named 15 men, including several of Prince Mohammed's personal employees and an Australia-trained, bone-saw wielding Saudi pathologist, who allegedly made up a "hit squad" to kill Khashoggi.

Turkey's president says he will announce details of the Turkish investigation into the death of Saudi writer Jamal Khashoggi's on Tuesday.

Speaking on Fox News Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al Jubeir on Sunday said, "We are determined to punish those who are responsible for this murder".

"The individuals who did this did this outside the scope of their authority", he added.

Britain will not cut off ties with Saudi Arabia despite the desert kingdom's failure to produce a credible account of a dissident journalist's death, a Cabinet minister said.

In a rare joint statement, Britain, France and Germany said there was an "urgent need for clarification" on what happened to Khashoggi and Riyadh's account had to "be backed by facts to be considered credible".

Saudi prosecutors said 18 people had been arrested and five top officials fired for their connection to the case.

Saudi Arabia has presented a shifting narrative of what happened to Khashoggi.

Saudi authorities have said Khashoggi died in a fight with Saudi officials at the kingdom's consulate in Istanbul on October 2.

"We are far from seeing everything on the table and the perpetrators being brought to justice", she said.

Saudi Arabia so far has not acknowledged or explained Mutreb's presence in Istanbul - nor that of a forensics and autopsy expert, also on hand for Khashoggi's arrival at the consulate.

Merkel had said Sunday that "when it comes to our already limited arms exports. they can not take place in the current situation".

The journalist has relatives still living in Saudi Arabia and three children who hold United States citizenship.

It is also in conflict with those by Turkish officials who claim they have video and audio proof that Khashoggi, a prominent critic of the Saudi government, was murdered by a 15-strong team who arrived and departed on the same day.

The king also ordered a restructuring of the intelligence service, to be led by Prince Mohammed, suggesting the prince still retained wide-ranging authority.

CNN says the man walked out of the consulate via its back exit with an accomplice, then took a taxi to Istanbul's famed Sultan Ahmed Mosque, where he went into a public bathroom and changed back out of the clothes and left. But in an interview with The Post late Saturday, Trump conceded that there had been "deception".

He said the Saudis did not know how Mr Khashoggi, a Saudi national and USA resident, had been killed or where his body was.

"They told us that he left the consulate", Jubeir said. "Yes, I think he did it", Bob Corker, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, told CNN, referring to the crown prince.

"I am not satisfied until we find the answer".

But even if the Saudis keep Trump on their side, they could face a reckoning from the U.S. Congress, where Republicans and Democrats alike have expressed outrage over the killing.
