Facebook Integrating Messenger, Whatsapp and Instagram

Insiders at the company say plans are afoot to change the way Facebook Messenger, WhastApp and Instagram function, unifying their messaging system for better integration.

As a result of this artificial inflation of user numbers, Facebook has been systematically overcharging companies for the ads they place on the social media monopoly's network, Greenspan's report claims.

Although they would remain standalone applications, the merger would allow users to communicate directly across the platforms, a feat now impossible because the applications have no common core. In what could prove a significant advantage over other messaging ecosystems, Facebook is also "considering ways to make it easier to reach friends and family across networks". While all three services will continue operating as stand-alone apps, their underlying messaging infrastructure will be unified, the people said.

Facebook, of course, has found itself at the center of a string of scandals beginning with revelations that it allowed the personal data of millions of users to end up in the possession of a political consulting firm called Cambridge Analytica that worked for the Trump campaign.

On the bright side, Zuckerberg has also ordered engineers to ensure end-to-end encryption is added to all the three messaging platforms. Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, co-founders of Instagram, stepped down in September 2018.

"Based on what pages people like, what they click on, and other signals, we create categories and then charge advertisers to show ads in that category", he said.

While there are many questions around how this would work and the impact it may have on users, the possibility of consolidating the messaging structure underneath WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook Messenger could have major implications for brands and advertisers. So far, there have been no statements from Instagram or WhatsApp surrounding the rumors. Facebook and Messenger ask for real identities.

The chief executive of Facebook, which turns 15 next month, wrote in The Wall Street Journal he wants to run a free service anyone can use, but that requires the ability to sell targeted advertisements.

"As you would expect, there is a lot of discussion and debate as we begin the long process of figuring out all the details of how this will work".

Facebook, a leading social media platform is looking to break down the barriers between its social media platforms. Fifty-one per cent of users said they were "not very or not at all comfortable" with Facebook amassing this information about them.
