Canadian singer Bryan Adams cancels concert following mass shooting at Christchurch mosques

Shooting Reported At Second Mosque In New Zealand's Christchurch Updates

Ambulance staff take a man from outside the mosque in central Christchurch, New Zealand.

Shots were fired at the first site, the Al Noor Mosque, just after 1:30 p.m. Friday, right when worshippers would be gathered for afternoon service.

Mr Wakefield, who was born in New Zealand, said his birth country missed an opportunity when it failed to follow Australia's example on gun reform following the Port Arthur massacre.

He is accused of murdering a man, whose name was suppressed by Judge Paul Kellar on grounds of undue hardship to his family.

After Tarrant left the court, the judge said that while "there is one charge of murder brought at the moment, it is reasonable to assume that there will be others".

Western leaders from Donald Trump to Angela Merkel expressed solidarity with the people of New Zealand and deplored what the White House called an "act of hate".

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison confirmed that an Australian citizen was arrested in New Zealand's mosque shootings. Two improvised explosive devices were located in a auto, according to investigators.

Tarrant, 28, grew up in Grafton in NSW and stated in a rambling 74-page "manifesto" posted online before the attack he had spent years in planning vengeance for deaths in Europe, before deciding on Christchurch three months ago.

Ardern described the spree killing as a terrorist attack and said the shooter - who was not on any watchlist and did not have a criminal record - had legally purchased the two semi-automatic weapons, two shotguns and lever-action gun he used.

Radio New Zealand said an eyewitness saw a man wearing a helmet and glasses and a military style jacket open fire inside one of the mosques.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the attacks a "brazen act of terror".

Reflecting on the recent mass shootings that took place at two mosques in New Zealand, Daryle Lamont Jenkins, executive director of the anti-fascist organization One People's Project, told Sputnik that the United States right wing "needs to be held accountable" for the attack.

Facebook said it had deleted the gunman's accounts "shortly after the livestream commenced" after being alerted by police.

"People started to pass by us with blood stains on their clothes, they were very scared and their voices were trembling, some people could not even speak", restaurant manager Prakash Sapkota, who was near the mosques, told Euronews.

"Horrified to hear of Christchurch mosque shootings". "What has happened here is an extraordinary and unprecedented act of violence".

Bulgaria's chief prosecutor said his country launched a probe on Friday into a November 2018 visit by the suspect.

She said two explosive devices were found attached to the suspects' vehicles and were later disarmed.

New Zealand police said 49 people had died.

Christchurch is home to almost 400,000 people and is sometimes called the Garden City.
